Good Morning Sunshine - Quasimoto
The Sun - Ghostface
Breathe In The Sun - The Perceptionists
Ah yes...back off a long extended holiday with some freshness and some updates for the loyal readers of The Funk. If you were not aware, or did not get me email of last week, Brother B has finally gotten a new gig. No longer will I be a slave to the desk, a servant of 7 am conference calls, or an underling to an unwilling corporate master whose only aim is to put a fork between me and my family, NAY! I tell you. NAY! Here is a copy of the mass email I sent which will explain the situation further:
Greetings folks.
I just wanted to take a few minutes to let yawl know what's been going on and what will be going on with your boy, Brother B. Some of you I have not seen in a minute, others I see all the dag gum time, some of you I know only by your email addresses and tastes for All Thangs Funky, but you are all friends in my book. Hopefully, I'll get up with each and every one of you one of these days.
For the past few years I have been doing the office shuffle for my father's company, LightStream Technologies, as a Tech Services Manager/Gopher Boy as well as finally finishing up my Bachelor's Degree at
I also bought a 1 bedroom condo/recording studio dealy in
The reason that I write this sort of summary/diatribe is that I have left my position at LightStream (okay, I was fired by the Board of Directors and before you ask me how my pops could fire his own kid, they are trying to fire him too. It's hella complicated and I need some Erk & Jerk just to explain it correctly) recently and decided that now, at 26 (27 in a month) was the time to pursue a passion over that almighty dollar bill. So I set out on a quest to get into coaching football again. I had dabbled in the art form in '99 but eventually succumbed to the pressure of actually being able to eat (LOL) and live in
Now some 5 and a half years later, I have finally accomplished one of my three goals in life. You are now getting an email from the newest member of the Guilford College Football Coaching Staff. That's right; I'm now a college football coach. Well to be more specific, I'm the new Assistant Football Coach in charge of coaching the Inside Linebackers (or Safeties depending on how it shakes out, but I'll update it when I find out). So my business card now reads:
BJ Lanier
Assistant Football Coach
Guilford College
(I'll send yawl some cards when I get them).
I start August 1st and the season pops off
So anyhow, that's the big news on my end. I just wanted to let you guys know what was in store for this fall. I won't give anyone any personal shout outs on this mass email, cause I'm sure I'll do it in person when I see you next. Whether that is at the BAN 10 year reunion cookout (What's up with that anyhow?), the Bash Brothers Album release party (Can we have one Zak???), or running into each other at some unplanned time, I'll thank you in person for helping me get to this point.
My cell will stay the same for at least the fall so feel free to hit me up at random points in the day or night to talk life/politics/or who's the greatest rapper of all time (and if you say Jay Z, you'll get punched through the phone LOL). It's "swatever" as Keith would say.
So in closing, thanks for being friends of 'ol Brother B and I'll be seeing you all soon; hopefully soon anyhow. Keep the faith and keep on funkin'.
It is such a nice day out this morning in the Metro Area that I thought I'd bring you some of the more "sunny" songs out of the collection to celebrate the occasion. And we all know what's coming next. Humidity and Gnats. I hate gnats. Little buggers love to mess up a bar-b-que.
But the songs are killer funky and I think best describe the feeling of a nice sunny day. If you are in the same type of weather as I am, I'm sure that you can get a sudden case of the Outside-itis and get your boss to have that strategy session outside in the sun. As the great X-Clan once said (well, said it a lot anyhow), Vanglorious! So download the tunes, crack open a bottle of whatever favorite beverage you have stashed away in your office desk and enjoy the day.
It's Gonna Be Greater Later,
Brother B.
