The Flavor Unit MCs -- Roll wit tha Flava
So yo,
I can't speak for Brother B, Snizz and the crew, but I plan to post more often, albeit short posts about the length of the one right before this one. Let's see if, by the end of the week, I can tackle the three posse cuts I've been wanting to touch on, give up the Posse Cut Mixtape list, and move on to other subjects.
I'd honestly forgotten about this posse cut until a few days ago, when I was inspired to download it. I'd never even seen the cover art on this until now ... My only exposure to this song was because I had it stuck on the very end of some cassette dub of a Philly radio show. The lineup is sick: Fast-rap kings Treach (of Naughty by Nature) and Chip-Fu (of the Fu-Schnickens) set off the Flavor Unit MCs' Roll Wit tha Flava, but Freddie Foxx (world famous Guest MC) kicks the doors down with the third verse. Queen Latifah, D-Nice, Heavy D (seriously, I have no idea how he keeps sneaking onto these posse cuts) and Dres of Black Sheep fame also go for theirs.
Despite the fact that Latifah is the only true member of the actual Flavor Unit on the track (I think the collective also featured Apache, Lakim Shabazz and the 45 King, but more on that if we ever do a North Jersey week), this joint bangs with that early 90s boom-bap, not-scared-to-use-an-obvious-horn-sample bravado. I miss that sh1t ... if you do too, take four minutes and re-live it.
