When the East is in the House, you should at least say hi

Danger (Premier Remix) - Blahzay Blahzay

In the not so distant past, there was only one name in the production business that when you heard it, you knew right then and there the song was going to be dope (that's very very good for you newcomers).

A simple snare hit. A not so subtle piano riff. A bassline that would give them Miamuh boys a run for their gold toothed money. The production was so simple yet so complex that it would test your mental capabilities while at the same time, make you crack a smile. And that was hard to do during the intense, albeit brief 1st campaign of the 'mad face invazion'.

Anyhow, he was the king (kang for you southern types) of the boards back in the 90's. Sure Dr. Dre and his 'assistants' (you know you knew) ruled the early part of the mainstream 90's; even I bought The Chronic when it came out. The RZA, Timbaland, Erick Sermon, Bomb Squad; all had their moments in time. But true to the essence, this man worked at his craft. Lacing every artist of the day with haunting, sometimes deadly tracks that would make Hans Zimmer jealous. The discography reads like the official Hip Hop Walk of Fame.

I mean, who can forget the first time your heard Supa Star by Group Home? Or Come Clean by Jeru? Or Who's Gonna Take The Weight by he and his partner Guru doing the GangStarr thing? I know that this post will not do justice (I'm leaving out a rack of stuff)to the vast amount of work that has been released to the public, but I wanted to do it anyhow. I encourage you the reader to write a little something in the comments section about the man if you want...

_______

I picked up this track a few weeks back while searching for the first Black Eyed Peas album. Remember how good that thing was? Now look at those bamas. Anyhoodle, Sir Blahzay Blahzay, who will go down as having one of the strangest rhyme names ever, released "Danger" in 1996 off the Blah Blah Blah LP. I remember when the LP came out cause I was getting ready to head off to Macon for fall football practice. Seems like forever ago. So does that performance Bobito, Rock and myself did in the Blackwell Auditorium. Somewhere, somebody has that video.

So to the man by which all other producers are measured (IMO), I give thanks and big nuff props for keeping the artform alive and kicking.

To you, the Honorable DJ Premier, 'nuff respect due.
